Murrieta Firefighters Care to Wear Pink

Murrieta firefighters are showing their support for breast cancer awareness by wearing their pink T-shirts on duty for two weeks beginning Oct. 9.

The saying "real men wear pink" couldn't be more true this October.

The International Association of Firefighters approved a resolution last year to encourage all members to participate in a nationwide campaign to honor women fighting breast cancer.

The campaign, referred to as “Cares Enough to Wear Pink,” has fire departments across the country wearing pink T-shirts in the month of October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Murrieta firefighters are showing their support by wearing their pink T-shirts on duty for two weeks beginning Oct. 9.

The purchase of the shirts were made by the Firefighters Association with all proceeds going to Michelle’s Place, a Temecula-based resource center for women with breast cancer, said Matt Corelli, spokesperson for the Murrieta Fire Department.

"Murrieta firefighters respond and treat many cancer patients in their day-to-day operations and they feel that this outward display of support will encourage and inspire those battling breast cancer or any other form of cancer," Corelli said.

The public can purchase the T-shirts for $15.
